Biography: Robert Wilson Porter graduated from the University M.A. in 1915. He began studying at the University in 1911 and achieved a 2nd class Honours degree in Classics. During WW1 Robert served with the Black Watch from January 1916 until his death at Passchendaele on 11 January 1918, aged 24. Regimental records show that he was killed by shellfire and no remains were recovered. Although he has no known grave, his name appears on the memorial wall of Tynecot Cemetery.
