Biography: Born in Glasgow, John Taylor was the son of school teacher Archibald Taylor and Caroline Anderson Taylor of 197 Onslow Drive. He was educated at Whitehill School in Glasgow before joining the University of Glasgow as a Medical student.
Taylor started university in 1914, studying Zoology and Chemistry in his first year as part of the Medical curriculum. He certainly made a promising start to university life – winning the Zoology Medal and topping his class under the instruction of John Graham Kerr. Taylor did not however continue his studies in 1915. As the Great War intensified, Taylor left the University to join the 9th Battalion (Glasgow Highlanders) of the Highland Light Infantry. Taylor was killed on 17 March 1918 and is buried at the Nine Elms British Cemetery in Belgium.
